South of Italy from the tradition to the contemporary design. This apartment (130 sqm) is located in the historical center of Salerno, in the South of Italy and the owners are a young couple who love to share their house with their friends and family. In this renovation, Area-17 created a very informal atmosphere with open space living-room in which the clients can enjoy cooking together while their friends are on the living-room. Area-17 used a warm and modern white wooden floor in the entire apartment in order to create homogenous surface. The colors are white combined with warm grey and a touch of dark grey for chairs and stools. All the surfaces are white like the flooring, sliding panels and bookshelves according to the Mediterranean style of Amalfi Coast, very close to the house location. This light “monochrome” made by white and different tone of gray creates a very clean and modern atmosphere. The design, with sharp, square shapes and the contemporary furniture of the most famous Italian design firm well combined together makes the whole house harmonious and comfortable. The minimalism design of this contemporary apartment reflected the minimalism of the mediterranean rural architecture in the South of Italy. Cotton and linen are the type of fabric used in this house according with Italian tradition and the warm weather of this region. Some contrast is created by a piece of colorful contemporary art on the wall, together with books, plants and fresh flowers.
