Our homes and yards usually represent our personal tastes and interests. And unless we are tenants and don’t have much freedom in terms of interior design and landscaping, our gardens and yards can pretty much be done up as we please.

But always consider that a front yard needs to blend in with its surroundings and be visually pleasing. Leave your interesting creativity, hobbies, and passions for your back yard.

So, let’s take a look at 9 front garden designs that can inspire you to give yours some sprucing up!

1. The perfect flora

So, you’ve just returned from your island vacation and want to recreate that tropical paradise in your front- and back yards. Resist! Remember that the UK’s climate is pretty much unique, which is why it’s basically impossible for tropical plants to survive here.

Take into account the weather, soil, and environmental factors that are needed for plants to survive and rather go with native plants and flowers for your garden. If need be, chat to a professional in your area, such as a Gardener or Landscape Architect

2. Neat edges

Aside from mowing your lawn, your yard’s edges also need to be trimmed. And you need to use the strimmer on the edges of paths and borders to ensure a perfectly manicured look.

For a much lower maintenance lawn there’s always artificial grass!

3. Perfectly pruned climbers

As you can see, our example shows some climbing flowers that are not only perfectly pruned, but also colourful. Overlook pruning those plants growing up your walls / fence and sooner or later they could start blocking the light from your windows, clog the gutters and drains, and ensure a most hideous look for your front yard.

4. A stylish focal point

Even a neat and beautifully painted front door can be a focal point, but if it’s not up to scratch, ensure you at least have some colour flowers, hanging baskets, or a water feature to look at.

5. A stand-out feature

A garden packed with ornaments can be just as unsightly as one overgrown with weeds. Commit to only one stand-out feature to maintain a natural look and feel, such as our example above.

6. Trees that are just the right size

A tree is always a nice-to-have feature, but ensure it comfortably fits into its space. Make sure that it won’t grow too big (those roots will lead to even more problems) and always have it professionally pruned.

7. No unsightly bins

If there is a less obvious space to place your trash bins (like the garage), take it! Your front yard needs to look open, clean and pristine. Garbage day is one thing, but ensure those bins are removed promptly when not needed!

8. Ideally illuminated

No need to have your yard shrouded in shadows as soon as the sun sets – a few garden lights alongside the path and/or a hanging lantern next to the front door can ensure some stylish illumination.

9. A clean, neat appearance

You don’t want to be the house with dancing reindeer (or whatever it is you put up during the festive season) in your front yard in late January – the neighbours will talk! Remove all holiday decorations as soon as possible so the attention can, once again, be drawn to that spotless front yard of yours.
