Often in life the greatest creative inspiration arises from limitation. Useful objects are invented to overcome obstacles and art is informed by the human desire to push boundaries. In the realm of architecture and interior design, the talented minds at Dröm Living managed to flourish when handed the challenge of creating an apartment within the confines of only 90 sqm.

Their goal was to create a wider and brighter space where elements of both comfort and functionality existed. Indeed the home is modern and stylish while simultaneously using every bit of space to its fullest potential. This home serves as an example to all of us that you can thrive in your interior space no matter the size. We hope you’ll join us as we explore this elegant apartment.

Overview of the living area

From this angle we can get a good overview of the main living quarters. Interestingly, the use of neutral tones actually makes the home feel warm and cosy rather than boring or sterile.

In the foreground we can see the living room, which is combined with the dining area in an open plan layout. The open plan, combined with the use of white walls, helps to create the illusion of space.

Trendy dining room

The designers did an excellent job of making the small space feel homey by incorporating timber into the design of the dining room. Wooden accenting on the walls complements the rustic chic table, breaking up an otherwise monochromatic colour scheme.

The dining room is in line with many trends in modern interior design. The minimalist décor coupled with the stylish black chairs and pendulum lights create a very aesthetically pleasing look. This goes to show that minimalism is an excellent choice for decorating small spaces.

Subtle storage and a sunny terrace

You may not notice it at first, but to the left is a large wardrobe for storing a multitude of items. The white lacquered cabinets, which lack handles, blend seamlessly into the overall design of the apartment without taking up too much space.

From this perspective, we can also see that the living room opens out to a terrace with a nice view of the surrounding city. Large windows allow light to bounce off the brilliant white walls and furniture, illuminating the space while also making it appear much bigger.

Narrow yet functional kitchen

Though this galley kitchen is quite narrow, the white backsplash and upper cabinets offset the apparent lack of space. By placing the primary kitchen appliances like the refrigerator, sink, and oven on one side, they do a good job of overcoming the challenge of furnishing such a narrow space.

On the right hand side the designers also included a breakfast bar with pleasant blue accent chairs for more casual dining.

Bathroom space perfectly maximised

The bathroom is configured in such a way that all space is maximised to its fullest potential. For one, extending the sink area from wall to wall allows not only for luxurious double sink fixtures, but also for extra storage space. The shower is shortened but none of its function has been reduced.

Placing the towel rack high up on the wall takes advantage of vertical space, and the mirror helps to make the bathroom look larger. Plus, the use of neutral tones works to add spaciousness just as we have seen in other parts of the house.

Serene and simple bedroom

The bedroom appears cosy, simple, and serene. There is a thoughtful use of mink and tan tones here, which make the energy in this space feel mellow and stable. Though dark in colour, the curtains still allow ample natural light to pass through. With thoughtful planning of the apartment overall, the bedroom is not overly cramped or claustrophobic. In fact, the furniture fits quite perfectly.
