Today on homify360 we will be exploring an authentically Mediterranean house in Catalonia. With a perfect climate it is difficult to resist spending as much time as possible in the warm air. With this in mind the design team at Brick Construction and Design constructed a free flowing layout where the exterior patio and terrace play a central role in the living space of the home rather than an auxiliary one. It seems that even the interior living areas reflect much of the charm of the outdoors with exposed stonewalls and terra cotta tiling.

The Mediterranean style otherwise expresses itself in the antique wooden furnishings, textile draperies, colourful jars and vases, and the wooden beams that make up the ceilings. Outside we see the same rustic stonewalls forming the enclosure around the backyard. Vines and other warm-weather vegetation line the perimeter. There is an in-ground pool and the split-level yard space allows for a soft, grassy area and patio for dining to co-exist. This is a fantastic home with a lot of character. We hope you will join us on this tour.

Fitted backyard space

The exterior spaces of this home are significant to understanding the house as a whole. Off the kitchen is this beautiful, rustic backyard with all the fixings. Closest to the house is a white stone patio equipped with a dining table that’s perfect for enjoying meals with family and friends on most days of the year in Catalonia. The backyard is designed into two levels where the upper portion yields to a lush back yard enclosed by stonewalls covered in vines.

Rustic meets modern

In the kitchen we see a dining table, large island, and modern appliances. This is a great example of the interplay between rustic aesthetics and up-to-date features that bring these homeowners the best of both worlds. Even when inside, the large windows and glass doors fill the kitchen with the lovely views of the backyard.

Oh so Mediterranean interiors!

The living room is very Mediterranean in appearance with broad archways, terra cotta tiling, and exposed stonewalls playing as major elements of the design. The sofa is wide and low with lots of throw pillows connoting a relaxed feel that helps make this room an excellent spot for entertaining guests inside on chilly or rainy days.

Laid-back yet regal master bedroom

The bedroom has a high, slanted ceiling with exposed timber beams. The rustic feel of this ceiling is complemented with the billowing canopy hanging above the bed. It is an airy and laid-back space that’s certainly not lacking in style. The purple bed linens and pillows add the right pop of regal colouring fit for a master suite.

Spacious en suite

The en suite accompanying the master bedroom has the same slanted ceiling with exposed wooden beams. The look is charming here as well. Beneath the sink are shelves for storage, a practical feature necessary in any functional bathroom. The shower is situated around the corner behind a low wall. It is luxuriously spacious.

Splendid terrace

The tour comes full circle as we finish outside on this terrace that offers a lovely view of the yard and surrounding foliage. It is a more private meeting area to be enjoyed more intimately than the patio below. It’s the ideal spot to have a coffee with a good friend on a sunny day, or to spend a romantic evening watching the sunset with a partner.
