The Mediterranean boasts some of the most beautiful scenery and architecture in the world, so today we’ll be taking a trip to the Spanish island of Majorca, to witness the transformation of a crumbling traditional home with a fairly dilapidated exterior to a majestic modern dwelling.
Restoration professionals Islabau Constructora gave the home new life; bestowing it with modern style while still respecting the buildings heritage and retaining a marked Mediterranean character. Let’s take a look…
To the top left of the photo we can see a snapshot of the interior before the renovation began. It was a shabby, dirty looking space, but even in this dilapidated state it was not without charm; the shape of the sloping roof and wooden beams give the room character that could later be exploited.
Directly below we can see the renovated, but still unfurnished space. The doorway has been enlarged creating a more open, fluid space, the walls have been re-plastered and painted, and laminate flooring has been laid.
To the right we can see the completed project, and the end result is fantastic! The dingy dwelling has become a bright bedroom of white and light wooden tones. The beams have been treated giving them a more intense colour that imbues the modern room with a rustic charm.
To the top right of the picture we have a photo of the home’s exterior at the beginning of the project, and we can appreciate the extent of the work done. The walls were literally crumbling and the area was overgrown requiring the space to be completely redesigned.
Below we can see a snapshot following the completion of the building work. The large palm tree obstructing the area has been removed and replaced with a slim pool that fits neatly into the allocated space, and the exterior of the home itself has had extensive work done with large patio doors being installed as well as a first floor balcony.
Look to the right and you’ll see the finished, furnished exterior. This enviable outdoor space has been designed to capitalise on the suntrap it has created with sun loungers to relax poolside and an elegant dining table for evening meals outside.
Moving on to the kitchen we find that it has been carefully positioned with the patio doors providing easy access to the dining table outside, while it faces the indoor dining area that’s just a few feet away. In addition, the stove faces the breakfast bar seating as well as the dining table, allowing the cook to continue to socialise while preparing meals.
Finally, we find ourselves in another beautiful bedroom bathed in natural light thanks to the glass doors that lead to balcony outside.
Overall, this stunning home exudes modern style while retaining its rustic Mediterranean roots – a truly stunning home.
