Tight spaces or just a desire to have a shower unit over a bath are both real reasons to design a bathroom this way. If a home is small, and a lot of standard homes in the UK are, a bathroom has limited space. And, we don't always like to compromise on choosing either a bath or a shower.

There is no real reason to either. We can have both easily. Just take a look below and see how you can save space and still have a shower and bath by simply combining the two. Some are modern, some are mixed and others are a little out there! But one fact remains, and that is that a shower/bath combination is an idea that means you don't have to sacrifice one for the other and it can still look stunning.

Awkward angles

We can take a lot from this image. For a start we can see that the bathroom is underneath some stairs, and one wall is on a slant. This can make it an awkward space. Yet, it makes an awesome bathroom with modern touches. The shower bath is tucked up in a corner that could easily have been unused. By putting a bath here and mounting the shower head on the higher wall, it save space and makes it very practical.

Mellow yellow

Of course you can go very modern, or you can go with something a little more traditional. This cast iron bath with claw feet, the exposed beam and the tile work are the embodiment of a traditional rustic room. Designed by Woodford Architecture, the bathroom looks wonderful. The shower head is attached to the taps themselves, making bathing or showering really easy. The bright yellow gives the room a bit of life and soul, like sunshine!

Beaming

This shower bath is in an renovated 18th century barn, as we can see buy the beautiful exposed beams that are everywhere. It has to function as a working family home, and this was taken into consideration during deign. By combining the shower and the bath, it has saved space and is perfect for family living too.

A little far out

We have a bathroom with a difference here. This room is a extension to a listed house. The house itself had very limited space, so this extension was much needed. The room has no windows, is made of sanded perspex and looks utterly seamless. The shower and bath are situated to the side and the room looks very futuristic. We feel you could almost imagine you were on a spaceship rather than a Georgian townhouse.

Bog standard

Well, bog standard bathrooms across the UK are about this size. It just goes to show how you can use the space to it's maximum potential and keep it looking up to date and stylish. The use of floor and wall tiles in different colours shows the different aspects and areas of the room. With the bath and shower having different coloured tiles, despite sharing an area, they are both distinguished as different to each other.

Traditional taps

As a leap away from the futuristic, this bathroom is very traditional looking. The roll top bath, the vintage tile look and the taps and shower head.  They all have a Victorian feel to them which really sits well in the space. Having a shower in your bath need not be a huge expense. A simple conversation from your existing taps to one like this, negates the need to install a complete shower unit.

A warm glow

If you do choose to install a compete shower unit over your bath, don't forget a shower screen. Of course a shower curtain is always an option, but we think glass works vey well in a more modern bathroom. They are easy to clean and allow light to move around the room. The pattern on the side of this bath extends into the shower itself, helping to link the two together as one space.

Classic looks

It really doesn't come more classic than a black and white bathroom. This room is simply stunning and contemporary. The dark tiling that fills half of the room isn't as overpowering as you may think it would be. It is simply something that makes the room look different and stylish. The shower head is embdedded in the ceiling, which will give a really powerful shower. The large glass shower screen ensures that all splashes stay in too. Having a shower over the bath also negates the need for a shower tray, you may as well have a bath to indulge in too!

Inspired bathing

A long thin bathroom need not be a standard bathroom. A quick look at this one and we can see that everything about it is luxurious. There have been no corners cut, other than those of the glass, in this design. The room is beautiful and the circular bath is a step away from the norm, giving the room a sense of elegance and complete indulgence. The shower head is located on the wall and we imagine bathing here will make you never want to leave.

Mosaic tiles

Bathrooms can be really light and airy and this is a good idea in a small space. The use of a white bathroom suite is clever and very much the thing that most people do. Coupled with a light wood, this bathroom has added contrast to the bath and shower by using mosaic tiles in black. The are made of glass and are slightly reflective, giving off a shimmering look. This shower is something a little bit special too and it looks like you could lose yourself in this bathroom for hours.
