Invited your friends for dinner tonight, but at a complete loss how to clean up your house in a jiffy? Feeling too tired after a hard day’s work, but after looking around your house feeling completely dejected at its current state? Don’t feel so frenzied, because we have the solution for you!

You really can get everything under control in less than 15 minutes, provided you have good housekeeping habits. This recipe is perfect for those who do not always find enough time to launch a major spring cleaning project – which, these days, includes almost every one of us. Let’s check out the snappy tricks that can ease some of your pressure…

Tackle your living room clutter

This is the first and perhaps the only part of your home that is going to be visited by your guests. Resolve all the clutter in this space.

Remove throws and cushions that are looking dated. Clean up the mess on the coffee table. Take used cups and saucers to the kitchen. It is better to keep a small basket or bag to quickly tuck in small items seem scattered all over the space, which you can then hide and deal with later.

Make the bed

Though you are supposed to do this right after leaving your bed, don’t blame yourself for ignoring it. This hardly takes a minute or so.

Just clean up everything and fold away the blankets. For a more refreshed look, change the pillow covers and the bed sheet. Don’t forget to sort out the clutter on your bedside table.

Put away stray clothing and accessories

Put away all the stray items of clothing and accessories lying on your bed, couch and chairs. You can neatly fold them away behind the closed doors of your closet or walk in wardrobe

But when pressed for time, just tuck them inside a box, armoire or in a cosy corner in your bedroom behind a curtain.

Clean the dining table

Nobody likes to see soiled plates and leftover food from yesterday on top of your dining table. Clean this up quickly and freshen up the dining room using aromatic candles or fresh flowers. Rearrange the chairs as well. If possible, bring out a fresh set of table linen, a runner, and placeholder mats.

Load the dishwasher

This is the easiest way of hiding your used plates and smaller utensils. If need to reuse some of the articles, you will have to get them cleaned by the time your guests arrive.

If you don't own a dishwasher, simply put them in your sink and cover them with a clean kitchen towel after you finish all the chores in your kitchen.

Meanwhile, wipe down the countertops

We know the entire day you were too busy with your office work and then cooking up a hearty dinner for everyone. But this is no excuse for keeping your kitchen untidy.

In an open floor plan house you will not be able to get away with this kind of mess easily. Besides, this upsets the hygiene of your home. Thorough rearranging of the shelves and cabinets are out of question, but wipe your countertops clean.

Put your bathroom in order

Remove all the used towels and put them away in a covered box or washing machine. Clean up the bathroom countertop, change the soap and bring out a fresh set of towels.

Place a few mothballs in the washbasin and use air fresheners to liven up the atmosphere. Fresh flowers would be a better choice, especially if you manage to procure them from your window garden.

Spot clean the floor

Since there is no time to scrub away every little blemish, just spot clean the floor to remove any loose dust. Clean up the corners, give special attention to the area near the shoe rack and vacuum clean the doormat. You can now rest easy, because your home is in perfect condition to welcome all your guests!
