This is an apartment renovation project in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo owned by a couple with three beloved cats.

Removing a divider wall from the original living/dining room allowed for an open kitchen with smooth circulation and speciousness for a large number of people to prepare meals and dine.

In addition, white colored walls and walnut floors produce a calm atmosphere; while indirect lighting on the ceiling and a catwalk located at the below this create a new rhythm for the space and their daily life.

A particular painting caught my attention.

The beautiful painting “Orange Edge” by the artist Derek Reist purchased in New York by the client, and it has been framed in the wooden canvas and placed on the east side wall.

Furthermore, the movable sliding door allows the display box behind the canvas to become visible, paying homage to the painting.

My wish is that “playfulness” spreads into their everyday life, bringing various new adventures.
